Political Instability: India has an incredible amount of instability and corruption in politics. India has two main political parties- Indian National Congress and the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP). These two are the major parts of the Parliament government. Currently, there is a vast amount of corruption involving major issues like elections, railways, customs, revenue collection, etc. An example of political instability relating to corruption is the Hawala Bribery Scandal in 1990. The Hawala Scandal involved over 115 top politicians in India including the Prime Minister, Union Ministers, Leader of Opposition, members of Congress, etc. The politicians were allegedly receiving payments from four brothers who were brokers of the Hawala companies, which amounted to upwards of US$18 million. The case and investigation started with the arrest of two militants in 1991. One by One, the cases of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) were getting thrown out. Evidence was counted as inadmissibl e and most politicians got off scot free. After the cases were dropped, it became public in a sworn testimony that the judge for the cases was made to make it all go away. It included three top political parties and everyone involved was a much involved as the next. This scandal rocked the country as their democracy lost trust and loyalty from the people.
